In February of 2020, the importance still unbeknownst to me, I gathered with a group of ladies I love, and we snaked our way over ice at the edge of Lake Michigan to do our first sunrise dip. While slightly painful, it was also euphoric. I spent the entirety of that day HIGH AS A FUCKING KITE. And the tradition began.
Lake Michigan sunrise dips. Dips after watching the full moon rise at dusk. Chilly spring and fall dips in inland lakes as the ice allowed, facilitated by paddleboard or cottage visits. Cold showers. A cold plunge tank. Barefoot walks on frosty earth.
Something happened each time—a convergence with nature, space for soul. The clear result of cold exposure was that MIND OVER MATTER was possible for me, something I’ve had a hard time embracing otherwise. The benefits are vast but personally, the benefits I’ve experienced include:
